Week 3 Blog Assignment: Communicating with people from different groups and cultures

This week’s blog assignment consists of me answering if I communicate differently with people from different groups and cultures. I would have to say yes! I do catch myself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures. For example I’m not one to speak Spanish fluently, but when I do communicate with someone who speaks Spanish I catch myself speaking it with English and Spanish words what we call TEXMEX in San Antonio. I also catch myself speaking slowly and using a lot of non-verbal communication like hand gestures and facial expressions. I also find myself really using my listening skills when the other person is speaking in the other language, because I want to make sure I hear what their saying clearly so If I don’t understand the words their using I usually use my translation app. I’m just someone who loves to talk with people of all cultures, and also be able to understand them so I can communicate with them. I’ve learned a lot from week 3, and one being how important the Platinum Rule is when communicating with others. I will make sure to continue following this rule so that at all times I make sure I’m treating others as I’d like to be treated.
